The M911 was introduced in the 1970s and was later upgraded with a more powerful engine and other improvements to create the M911A1. It was then further upgraded with a "Red Version" which included a 740 horsepower Detroit Diesel 8V92TA engine and some other minor improvements. The M911 Red Version HET had a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 120,000 pounds and was capable of towing up to 70 tons. It had a powerful winch and a hydraulic loading ramp to facilitate the loading and unloading of heavy equipment. The truck was often used in combination with a specialized trailer known as the M747 Heavy Equipment Trailer.
